About Tara
Tara Kenny is a Certified Professional Midwife, Certified Lactation Counselor and Doula who has been attending births since 2000 and has practiced in the Boston area since 2006. She lives in Cambridge and has two of her own children. She is extremely passionate about VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean), especially after having a VBAC herself in 2015.
Tara’s interest in women’s health and pregnancy began while completing her BA in Sociology and Anthropology at Lewis and Clark College in 1999. In 2000, she took a doula training and then traveled to Kenya to live and work in a rural hospital as part of her thesis on childbirth practices.
Inspired to go further in this work, Tara attended the National College of Midwifery and trained at the Northern New Mexico Midwifery Birth Center attending home births, birth center, and hospital births. She spent three years in this program as an apprentice and received comprehensive training on prenatal, postpartum, and well-woman care. In 2006, she became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). Since receiving her certification, Tara has traveled to work in birth centers in Australia, Belize, and Senegal. She also became a Certified Lactation Counselor through The Healthy Children Project. Tara recently became a Body Ready Method Pro and is compassionate about helping people find strength and mobility during their pregnancy and birth. These skills have enabled Tara to be more proactive in helping people plan for their birth and also provides detailed skill in helping navigate positions in labor that facilitate physiological birth.
Tara is motivated by a strong belief that families deserve compassionate and loving support throughout their childbearing years in all settings. Whether working as a midwife, doula, or in other capacities, her goal is to help people to make empowered and educated choices about childbirth.
When Tara is not working, she is cycling, running, and enjoying time outside with her friends and family.
